When a Refund Can Be Withheld  by IRS ? –  Many of the taxpayers don’t receive the refund If you owe money on a education loan or child support, or for past federal taxes.

If any of the such situation prevails the refund may be withheld by IRS or Department of Treasury’s Bureau of the Fiscal Service. Number of times entire IRS tax refunds are held.

Here is the list of situation when a refund can be withheld

  • Pending income tax obligations of states.
  • Any previous dues against child and parent support.
  • Federal agency non-tax debts.
  • There may be pending unemployment compensation debts owed to a state.

How to Get Refund Issued ?

In case of Federal government agencies dues or debt call directly to the concern department to check whether  your refund is enough to to pay your debt.

Once to contact them they would send you the notice informing the status of your refund with details of original refund amount, address and telephone number.
